Sketchbook Activities

Your sketchbook is where you’ll stretch your creativity, practice new ideas, and warm up before diving into bigger projects.

  • Beginning Art: You’ll do a sketchbook or warm-up activity every day. Fridays will switch it up with something different and fun!

  • Intermediate & Advanced Art: You’ll have whole-class sketchbook prompts less often, but they’ll still help you spark ideas and grow your skills alongside your projects.

Come back to this page anytime for directions and updates on sketchbook and warm-up activities.

Vision Boards

This week we’ll be creating Vision Boards to plan our goals and inspirations for the year.

A vision board is a collection of images, words, and symbols that represent what you care about, what inspires you, and what you want to focus on.

You can create your board on:

  • Paper (construction paper, magazine collage, photos, drawings, etc.)

  • Digital platforms (Canva, Pinterest, Google Slides, etc.)

Example: Ms. Holmes’ Vision Board

My vision board represents the things I love and the goals I want to focus on this year. I included a picture of Max, my dog, one of my six animals, because they bring me joy and remind me to care for the beings I love most. Swimming and water are also on my board, since they give me peace, and I want to make them a bigger priority in my life. I added one of my stained glass artworks and pottery because I want to keep challenging myself creatively and even get a kiln set up. The tuba is there because I want to reconnect with music, which used to be a big part of my life. I also included Mexican flags to represent my 31st birthday trip and my goal to keep practicing Spanish. Cat Stevens is on my board because his music inspires me and connects me with my dad; we’re going to see him in October. I added books to remind myself to keep learning and reading, and nature photos like Yosemite, because I want to spend more time outdoors. Lastly, I put my partner Andrew, my website goal, and an artwork called "Woman with a Cigarette" to symbolize love, growth, and my passion for art and reflection. Together, these images show that I want to live a life focused on family, art, peace, and nature.

Your Task

  1. Create a vision board filled with images, words, or drawings that truly represent YOU.

    • Every image or word must be meaningful and appropriate.

    • Avoid adding random pictures just for decoration — everything should have a purpose.

  2. Write a short paragraph (5–8 sentences) explaining your vision board.

    • Why did you choose these images?

    • How do they connect to your goals, inspirations, or identity this year?
